FREOR Implements Innovative Hydroloop System in Hungary

FREOR, in collaboration with its Hungarian partner Total Cool, has recently implemented a supermarket in Szeged, one of the longest-running discount store chains, with the innovative and environment-friendly Hydroloop Glycol cooling system. This project highlights the increasing dedication of Hungarian retailers to embrace sustainable refrigeration solutions that not only minimize environmental impact but also deliver significant operational cost savings. FREOR is proud to have been selected to implement its Hydroloop system in the store, contributing to a greener future for the retail industry.

What is the Hydroloop Glycol Cooling System?

The Hydroloop Glycol system is a cost-effective alternative to the remote refrigeration system. It connects plug-in refrigeration equipment fitted inside with compressors and all refrigeration cycle components to a glycol-cooled system with a plate condenser. The system efficiently removes excess condensation heat through liquid pipes to the exterior of a building or allows reusing it for heating the store or water. The pump station in the system eliminates the need for a machinery room and facilitates glycol circulation in a closed-cycle liquid system.

Main components of the Hydroloop System:

  • An outdoor dry cooler is used in the system for heat removal to the outside when heat reusal is not needed.
  • The pump station ensures glycol circulation in a closed loop and can be mounted anywhere in the store. We offer wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, or traditional floor pump stations to provide flexibility in using the space most efficiently.
  • Liquid pipes for the condensation heat removal.
  • A hot water tank is optional and can be used for water heating.
  • The sales area heating system is optional and can be connected to heat the store.

Advantages of Hydroloop Glycol System

  1. Environmental Sustainability
Utilizes the natural, future-proof propane (R290) refrigerant with a very low Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 3. Additionally, it enables the reuse of emitted heat for shop heating.
  2. Energy Efficiency
Results in 30% energy efficiency, with the possibility to achieve up to 70% efficiency when using together with Continuous Cooling technology, optimizing both performance and sustainability.
  3. Flexibility
Allows easy adaptability—components and refrigeration equipment can be replaced, relocated, or added without disrupting the entire system, ensuring seamless operations.
  4. Cost-effectiveness
Offers simpler, more affordable installation compared to remote systems, with reduced complexity for ongoing maintenance, resulting in significant cost savings over time.

Hydroloop Glycol impact on the supermarket

Implementing the Hydroloop Glycol cooling system in the supermarket has delivered significant benefits. By reducing energy consumption, the system aligns with the retailer’s sustainability goals and significantly reduces operational costs. The use of propane (R290) refrigerant has further minimized the store’s environmental footprint, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability. Additionally, connecting all FREOR refrigeration equipment units to the Hydroloop system has created a highly efficient cooling environment.
